Pieced Feathered Star (1 of 2)

FeatherPiecedStar.png

A Feathered Star medallion looks beautiful and complicated.  However, you can simplify the pattern into easily crafted pieces without Y seams. In session one, we will start with a discussion of focus fabric and how to choose colors to harmonize and contrast with it. Then comes the piecing. We will start with the feathers and cover different techniques for making the half square triangles quickly and accurately. Pattie will show you how to do it both by machine and by hand piecing. Your homework will be to finish the 48 half square triangles needed for this pattern.

In session two, we will cut out the remaining pieces and sew everything together accurately without cutting off your points. Again, Pattie will show you how to do this using both machine piecing and hand piecing. We will then discuss how to set the feathered star block on point and talk about different border designs to enhance the center medallion. Finally, we will talk about appropriate quilting designs that will bring all the design elements together for a stunning quilt.

This is not a beginner’s class. Students should be secure in sewing an accurate ¼” seam and using a rotary cutter and quilters ruler.
